11 Christmas Films : The Holiday (9)

The Holiday is a 2006 American Christmas-themed romantic comedy film written, produced and directed by Nancy Meyers. Distributed by Columbia Pictures and Universal Pictures and filmed in both California and England, it stars Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet as two lovelorn women from opposite sides of the Atlantic Ocean, who temporarily exchange homes to escape heartbreak during the holiday season.

Frederic : This is sightly lengthy to tell what it wants to. It’s not an unpleasant film, maybe because not overly about Christmas ? The stories are very simple and yet very meaningful, but it really looks like they played a lot on the cast, because it certainly wouldn’t have stricken as much with less famous names. That’s one of the more inglorious elements about it. This film helps you realise how important some decisions you make in your life are and to know how to step up when something just isn’t working out,  that is to say things most of us haven’t learnt watching it. So in the end, The Holiday unfortunately isn’t as relevant as the messages it carries and only represents one of these films to watch when you do have time to waste.

Joshua: Hm, “The Holiday”… This movie is the perfect description of the word “average”. The cast with Jude Law, Cameron Diaz, Jack Black and even the wonderfull Kate Winslet is amazing, but the very simple plot is the thing that makes the movie just “average”. Although the idea of two women switching their homes and live in another country, then meeting the man of their dream, is not bad one. It’s just the movie would have needed a little more excitement. Something to make the film unforgettable and special. But there was not much to remember. Maybe it’s because i’m not a fan of a romantic comedy movie.

Luke : This film I can only describe as a mess and a half, it’s not interesting, it’s very dull and it just seems like one of those movies you will watch over a bottle of Red Wine. The casting itself I’m not too fussed on and the style it’s set in is rather boring. I imagine the film itself is trying to relate to Love Actually, but let’s face it Love Actually was better quality, better jokes and a much better film. Whilst still trying to have an all star cast, the cast of The Holiday’s seem to share not that much chemistry. Maybe if you have nothing better to do then go ahead and watch it.
